End self-sabotage and WIN with confidence

A lot of successful people today have a few things in common. Some of these similarities include, belief in their selves and belief in their product. This confidence can be a push to do greater things in life.

For a self-saboteur, you might be wondering how people are able to continuously have that positive outlook and belief.

Self-sabotage is having opposing beliefs and approaches about succeeding in getting what you want. It’s these thoughts and feelings that force you to respond in ways that muddle with your ability to attain your long-term goals. In other words, it’s you, acting against yourself.

When you find yourself displaying self-sabotaging traits, how are you able to overcome? The first step is acknowledging it. By being on this page and reading this right now, it shows that you are aware of the problem and are ready to put an end to it however, you may not know how to.

Here are a few tips to help you overcome self-sabotage;

Be Self- Compassionate

Studies have shown that self-compassion is associated with emotional resilience, and less narcissism and angry outbursts. Self-compassion can also center us, help us go after our goals, and better deal with fears and anxiety.

Treat yourself like you would a best friend when you’re suffering. What would you say to your BFF if they screwed up on achieving a goal? Odds are it is going to be very different from what you would say to yourself.

Watch the Words You Speak to Yourself

Sit down and think about an important goal you’ve set for yourself. What thoughts pop into your head when you think about your goal? Maybe you think something like the following:

  • “There’s no way I can achieve that.”
  • “If I fail I’ll never be able to show my face in public again.”
  • “I don’t deserve that.”

If so, you’ve identified negative, self-sabotaging beliefs. You need to replace those negative beliefs with positive, empowering beliefs. Say things like the following to yourself:

  • “I’m going to have to work hard to achieve this goal, but it’s important to me and I’m ready to do what it takes.”
  • “Failure is evidence that I tried to make a better life for myself. There’s no shame in that.”
  • “I’m a good person and I do good for others. I deserve to be happy and realize my dreams.

Don’t just accept what your inner saboteur says to you. Instead, be ready with your counter-arguments.

Explore Life

All of life is an exploration. Being open to life means seeing where certain experiences will take you and accepting openly the good as well as the bad. Of course, if something really isn't working or it genuinely isn't for you, that's fine; but if it's really a reluctance to explore life and to experience the good and healthy, then it is an area that needs some self-work.

In the end, once you’re able to stop being your enemy and work on becoming your greatest ally by uncovering and getting rid of that inner saboteur, you become almost unstoppable.
